What's New in the Mobile Version of Monster Hunter Rise
Per-weapon touch controls, the new Recovery Button, free Challenge and Event Quests, 4-player online — and no Sunbreak.
# What's New in the Mobile Version of Monster Hunter Rise
The mobile release of Monster Hunter Rise isn't just the Switch game squeezed onto a phone. Netflix and Capcom made specific changes for mobile — some additions, some omissions. Here's the complete list of what's different.
## Built for touch, weapon by weapon
Rise has 14 weapon types, and they play nothing alike — a Great Sword and a Bow might as well be different games. Instead of one generic virtual gamepad, the mobile version has **touch controls rebuilt per weapon**, with layouts tuned to how each weapon actually plays. That's the single biggest piece of mobile-specific work in this port.
## The Recovery Button
New to mobile: a **Recovery Button** that automatically selects your best healing item in the middle of a fight. On console, healing means opening the item bar, scrolling to the right item, and using it — all while a monster is trying to flatten you. The Recovery Button compresses that into one tap. It's a small change that will save a lot of hunts.
## Quests that used to cost extra are now free
On other platforms, some **Challenge Quests and Event Quests** were paid DLC or only available for limited windows. On mobile, they unlock through normal progression — just play and they open up. If you skipped Rise on console because the DLC drip annoyed you, this is quietly the best deal in the mobile version.
## 4-player online multiplayer
Full **4-player online co-op** made the jump to mobile, and it works because the game runs natively on your device rather than being streamed. What hasn't been mentioned: **cross-play** with Switch or PC. Assume it doesn't exist until someone announces it.
## What's missing: Sunbreak
The big omission: **Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak**, the expansion, is not on mobile. You get the base Rise game — which is still a 50+ hour game before you touch multiplayer — but don't go in expecting the expansion's content.
## The 20-million context
This all landed the day after Capcom announced Rise had passed **20 million copies sold**, making it the company's third best-selling game ever. A port of a 20M-seller, free with a subscription many people already have, is going to pull a lot of new hunters in.
